APD is an event for animation industry professionals. The following people can register:

  • Producers who want to present a project at APD for which they are seeking coproduction partners and investors
  • Producers, studios and service producers who are looking for projects in which they can get involved
  • Distributors, investors and representatives from sales companies, broadcasters and publishers who are looking for innovative animation projects
  • National and international funding bodies for film, television and digital media
  • Young talents who want to apply to participate in the APD Talent Programme

How to Register

Producers who want to present a project…

…can submit feature film, series, games and transmedia projects at concept, development or production stage. Hybrid formats mixing animation and live action are also eligible. Only one project per company can be submitted. Submission is via our online form. A jury will then select the participants.

Submission deadline: 21 February 2019 (early bird: 30 January)

Producers submit their project via the online form and are informed by 28 February 2019 whether or not it has been accepted. If it has, the registration then becomes effective and the participation fee is due. Producers whose projects are selected for APD participate in the entire APD programme.

Terms and Conditions

Projects for APD 2019 must be submitted via the online form. The deadline is 21 February 2019 (early bird: 30 January). The following information, texts and files are required for submission:

  • Key company details incl. company profile (max. 800 characters)
  • Key project details (title, parties involved, format, genre, animation technique, target audience, etc)
  • Financing details (budget, partners)
  • Synopsis (max. 500 characters)
  • Director / producer notes (project USP, visual concept, cross or transmedia strategy, etc) (600 – 1000 characters)
  • What we are looking for at APD (max. 300 characters)

All texts and information must be submitted in English.

Files:

  • Photos of the registered participants (3x4cm at 300 dpi, jpg or tif)
  • At least 2 illustrations / film stills from the project (without text elements, in landscape format, 145x91mm at 300 dpi)
  • Filmographies of the writer, director, head of animation (if already appointed)
  • Company track record

From the submitted projects, a jury will select between 40 – 45 projects to participate in APD.

Selection criteria are creativity, innovation, potential for brand development, market potential, suitability for and openness to co-production. Project selection will be completed by 28 February 2019 at the latest.

Producers and Studios (without their own project)

Producers, studios, VFX and service producers looking for projects in which they can get involved can register either for the co-producers’ programme or the full APD programme. The number of participants is limited.

Please Note: Producers presenting a selected project at APD will be prioritised when requesting meetings with commissioning editors, digital platforms and distributors.

APD Full Programme

Producers without their own project can also participate in the APD Full Programme. However, producers who are presenting a project have precedence in the allocation of meetings with broadcasters and distributors.

Broadcasters, digital platforms, sales and distribution companies, funding bodies, banks and all other industry representatives that can contribute to the financing of animation projects should register as investors.

APD Talent Programme

With its Talent Programme, APD offers young German and European producers and animation and production degree graduates the opportunity to participate in APD for free and to present their own project for which they are seeking production and/or financing partners.

Application deadline: 21 February 2019

Feature-length films, TV series, mobile content, games, cross- and transmedia projects are all eligible to apply. Short films can only be submitted if they are suitable for further development in different formats. Up to two participants per project can apply.

Application is via the online form.

The application deadline is 21 February 2019.

The APD jury decides on 28 February 2019 the allocation of up to 14 places in the APD Talent Programme. APD grants the selected participants free accreditation, hotel accommodation (up to three nights) and a contribution towards travel costs.

The following information, texts and files are required for the application:

  • Key company details incl. company profile or, if a single person is applying, personal profile (max. 800 characters)
  • Key details about the project (title, parties involved, format, genre, animation technique, target audience, etc)
  • Financing details (budget, partners)
  • Synopsis (max. 500 characters)
  • Director / producer notes (project USP, visual concept, cross or transmedia strategy, etc) (600 – 1000 characters)
  • Who or what we are looking for at APD (max. 300 characters)

In the run-up to APD the selected participants will receive tips and suggestions for how to present their project in the one-to-one meetings. They will be accompanied and guided during the event by an industry-experienced APD curator.

Special Offers for National Delegations

APD offers special participation rates for national and regional delegations.

Thanks to funding from the Creative Europe MEDIA Programme, we can offer delegations from EU countries with a low audiovisual production capacity who are participating in APD for the first time a reduction in fees of up to 50%.

A delegation comprises of four to six producers / studios and a institutional representative from the respective country or region.
